Traineeships

Traineeships are available for Certificate III, Certificate IV (OSHC) and Diploma. All qualifications are nationally accredited and are delivered through a flexible delivery style to assist you to complete your qualification while you work. We also offer accredited short courses in First Aid and CPR.

Traineeships allow you to train your own staff so that they become familiar with your service, your work environment, your standards, your equipment and your customers. It is also an opportunity for you pass on valuable skills and teach someone all that you know.

Employers taking on trainees may be eligible for Commonwealth incentives. At present there is incentive funding available for New Worker Traineeships for Certificate III, Certificate IV (OSHC) and Diploma. Existing worker Traineeship funding is also available for Certificate IV (OSHC) and Diploma.
  • Incentive payment $1500 – paid to the employer after 3 continuous months of a traineeship.
  • Completion Incentive Payment $2500 – paid to the employer when the trainee completes the qualification.
Your employer will need to contact a local Australian Apprenticeships Centre (AAC) to come to the workplace and discuss traineeship contract requirements and eligibility and complete the sign up process. During this process you can nominate the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) The Australian YMCA Institute of Education and Training.

There are two main ways of obtaining a traineeship. The first is to apply in response to a specific advertised position. The second is through your current employer. If you are currently working in a centre that provides Children’s services you may be eligible to enrol as a trainee. Trainees can be signed up in the following service types:
  • Long Day Care
  • Occasional Care
  • Out of School Hours Care
  • Crèche
There are two main types of traineeship available in Children’s Services:
  • New worker traineeship (NWT)

Your eligibility will be dependent on the amount of time you have been employed as a permanent employee.
