The Bridge Project
The Bridge Project aims to reduce re-offending rates among young people – in particular Aboriginal young people - by creating meaningful employment opportunities and offering education, training and workplace mentoring following their release from detention.
Participants are given support to strengthen their vocational and work readiness skills to improve their long-term work prospects and assist them to re-engage both socially and economically with their communities. They also gain access to the YMCA’s extensive range of counseling and youth services to further assist with their rehabilitation.

YMCA will assess participants and match employers with ‘work ready’ young people, in addition to subsidising wages for the period of their work placement.
The Bridge Project will initially assist young offenders aged between 15-18 years, and takes a ‘whole of community’ approach involving youth detention centres, the Police, local employers and the extensive suite of other support services provided by the YMCA to support the young persons rehabilitation.
